White Fused Alumina Oilstones

White fused alumina is produced by fusing high-purity alumina at very high temperature and then crushing and grading the result. What comes out is a hard, angular abrasive grain that is low in the impurities that cause a stone to cut unevenly.

In a finished oilstone this shows up as three practical properties. The stone cuts consistently across its whole face rather than wearing a hollow in the middle. It leaves a finer, more uniform scratch pattern, which matters when the next operation is polishing. And it holds its form well under light pressure, which is what precision sharpening and lapping call for.

White fused alumina oilstones are the right choice when the goal is the quality of the finished surface rather than how much material comes off per pass. Typical uses are final edge refinement on cutting tools, precision lapping of flat faces, and the fine stages of mold and die work where the surface finish carries through to the part being produced.

Where heavy stock removal is the priority, a coarser silicon carbide stone is usually the more economical route. Many of our customers order both and use each where it belongs.
